I really love my job. And I could list a million reasons why, and this wedding had them all. Kerri and Lee were so much fun to hang out with for the day, and made such a stunning couple. They had such a great bridal party, that kept making me laugh (which is always such a perk), and the little special touches in their wedding made their day so beautiful, such as the framed wedding pictures of family members as the centerpieces at the reception.

The Florida May heat was trying to keep us down, but it couldn’t! Thank the good Lord for a/c. We snagged such a great First Look in front of the Porcher House in Cocoa Village. The ceremony was at the Riverfront Park in Cocoa and it was gorgeous! Lee made the alter that they stood under, which blew me away.

It was such a pleasure to work with this couple, because, as always my favorite part of the wedding day, everyone around them kept talking about how happy they were for them. You could tell by the stories shared, the speeches given (which the funniest best mans speech, and most heart felt maid of honor speech I’ve ever heard), and the looks people gave them, that this was a true love.

Kerri you were stunning! These portraits of her are breathtaking! And being a daddy’s girl, the photos of the father daughter dance are some of my favorites.

Congratulations Kerri & Lee! Thank you so much for letting me part of your big day!

Meet Tucker. The sweetest little boy.

Also the nephew to my good friend Ashley. I held a contest last December and Ashley’s sister Cassandra won, such a small world. Cassandra and Mike are such a great couple and you could just tell being around them that they loved this little boy more than words.

The house was full of family and other toddlers, and some how Tucker fell asleep at the end. I was beyond envious. It was so much fun being around their family and some friends, all who ooed and awwed at Tucker.

It’s always such a joy to be around parents and their new babies.

Congratulations Mike and Cassandra, he is such a handsome little boy!

Yesterday Duke turned two!

If you aren’t a dog person, this post will make zero sense to you. But if you are, than you realize that dogs have birthdays too.

Duke came into our lives a year ago by adoption. A super sweet couple I know had been fostering Duke, and needed to find him a perfect and forever home. I showed Sonny a picture of Duke last January, and begged him. It’s not that I just wanted Duke…I needed Duke.
We met Duke shortly after that at a local park. We could see, and hear, him a mile away. Sonny and I both walked away mumbling, “Wow. He was really big.”

Duke could have been 500 pounds and I still would have wanted him.
I prayed a lot that God would let us have Duke. Selfish, you bet. But hey, He heard me.

Our friends took their time and decided that Sonny and I were (obviously) the best parents for Duke (Insert winky face here). And oh gosh am I happy they picked us.

Last May they dropped Duke off and had a bittersweet goodbye with this sweet boy that they had rescued and seriously nursed back to health.

To say it was an adjustment would be an understatement. Duke was 101 pounds of puppy. We spent a week wondering how we had just adopted a horse.

It didn’t take long at all for us to realize that Duke is just 101 pounds of love. He has absolutely no idea how big he is (he’s known to lean on people, and sit on laps), has turned into a total mamas boy, and all he wants to do all day is play. Duke has been the center of our attention for the last year, and will continue to do so. I honestly have no idea how people love humans more than they love dogs.

We’ve 100% turned into those people.
Who take their dog every where.
Who come up with nicknames like Dukeybear, Dukester, Duke Doggie Dog, Dukerbear.
Who feed him table scraps.
Who let him get away with murder.

Because how could we not. Look at that face.

We of course have done Dukes favorite things for the past two days. Dog park, swimming in Grandmas pool, sharing a cake with cousins, out to lunch with mommy and daddy, and even a trip to PetCo to pick out some new toys!

He’s our child, if that hasn’t been made clear yet 🙂

Brianna contacted me back in February about her newborn pictures, so when the day came for me to finally meet this beautiful baby girl, I was thrilled!

Jordan and Brianna are the sweetest couple. Watching them with their first baby for the morning was so amazing, and I’m so thankful to have been able to capture these moments for them! They all turned out to be my favorite. Seriously. The one’s of daddy and his little girl, swoon. And mommy holding Avalyn on her chest, I melted. Avalyn was also the first baby to smile while she was sleeping…and I caught it. Editing these pictures put a huge smile on my face.

Thank you so much Jordan and Brianna for letting me take your newborn photos! Avalyn is so beautiful!

_DSC7384-2_DSC7391-2A year ago this month, I said goodbye to serving tables and started photography full time.

And oh my goodness, what a year it’s been.

I can’t lie. It’s been really, really hard at times. There have been a lot of days with tears, and the desire to give up was huge. Because incase this hasn’t been stated yet: starting and trying to run a small business is hard.

But it was all worth it.

This isn’t a post about how I’ve made it. Because I’m not even sure where you “make it” in this industry, but I know I’m not there yet. This is a post about how really giving God your dreams, I mean really giving them to Him, trusting that His plan for your life is so much better than you could ever imagine, is worth it.

I met with a really sweet friend a little over a year ago before I quit my job and she asked me a really simple question, “If this isn’t what God has for you…are you prepared to fail?” It was a question that hit my heart like a dagger. Because no, I hadn’t thought about failing. I had only thought about becoming the greatest wedding photographer ever.

Humble I know.

It’s true though. My plan was simple. Make a name, Facebook page, and then the weddings and sessions would just come rolling in.

{Insert huge buzzer noise here}

I was wrong.

I had one wedding booked before I took my giant leap of faith and quit my job. Just one. Uno. A single wedding.
I was still shooting sessions for free because I desperately needed to build up my portfolio, and just praying that I had made the right decision. Because incase no one’s ever said this out loud: when you ask the Lord to direct your path, He doesn’t necessarily send down a map. In fact I didn’t really hear anything. I just prayed.

A lot.

And worked really hard.

My wedding in October couldn’t have gone any better. I in fact, cried when I got home because I was so happy with how the pictures had turned out. I’ve been scheduling sessions and weddings since, and praying. I keep praying. Because if tomorrow, the Lord decides that this isn’t what He has for me anymore…I don’t want it to take a year for me to realize.

Moral of the story: pray.

I’ve been published twice, shot four weddings, and had a bunch of sessions with the most amazing clients. My first year of wedding photography doesn’t look like anyone else’s. And I’m so thankful for that.

There are days when I think I’m doing it all wrong, or notice the girl who’s only been doing it a year long than me has a booming business. But this first year of Megan Elizabeth Photography, it was just the way the Lord planned it.

I honestly couldn’t do any of it without the support of my incredible husband. On the days I want to quit, he’s the one who’s pushing me to keep going. Sonny, I honestly don’t think I’ll ever be able to say thank you enough.

I also wouldn’t be here with out the support of my amazing clients. And this is just the beginning. I am so thankful for each and every one of you. For the weddings, engagement sessions, maternity and newborn shoots, and all the families who let me take photos of their beautiful families. Thank you all so much.

I was recently published in print for the first time in Denim + Grace.
Thank you Jesus for this life.

Two days ahead of bliss…and this week even more so because it’s Mother’s Day weekend!

I’ve got a really, really great mom. One who deserves the world for putting up with me for the last 25 years, but more on that another day.

I listened Jasmine Star’s talk at the OC Summit yesterday (if you’re a photographer go watch that), and she talked a lot about getting your personality out there on the internet. Some people get really thrown off by this, others, like me, think it’s an incredible way for future clients to get to know me before we even talk. She suggested doing a bi-or weekly series on our blogs. I loved the idea and tried to brainstorm all the catchy titles I could think of.

Friday Favorites.
Wonderful Wednesday.
Tubular Tuesday.
Things I found Thursday.

They were all that bad. So. I just decided on “It’s Friday Y’all“.

Call me crazy, but I’m diggin it.
I have no idea if anyone (but my mom) will be reading these, but hey. We’re doing this anyway.

So Friday!

I had a big week! If you didn’t see, I got published in the Denim + Grace 2014 Posebook. I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am to get this book in the mail. There’s no doubt tears will be in the presence of opening that box. I am so, so thankful to serve a God who’s so amazing.

This weekend I’m attending a women’s conference and the speaker is Lysa TerKeurst. I did a study on her book Unglued and loved every chapter. She’s one of those women that you just know “gets you”, her writing often felt like we were just chatting over coffee, which I love.

loved this post by Holley Gerth.

Chelsea posted put Duke in her blog. And duh, I read all the comments to see the one’s about Duke. #proudmama
Also. If you haven’t bought her book yet. Go do that now. It was such a great summer read!

Last night the Cleveland Browns drafted Johnny Football. A call I made on Twitter earlier on in the day…but we won’t go there. Poor Johnny sat around for 22 picks, something I don’t think anyone in the sports world thought would happen. He waited, and waited, and waited…for Cleveland. Welcome home buddy! Little fun fact for ya, the Cleveland Browns have gone through 20 quarterbacks since 1999. If we make Hoyer 21, then that would mean Manziel would be 22, ALSO the number he was drafted! Maybe I’m getting way ahead of myself here. But it’s a thought. Also. Turns out the owner of the Browns got his draft day advice from a homeless man. Classic Cleveland. Super Bowl Champs.

And here’s a little inspiration for your weekend. Happy Friday y’all.

Meredith Pannett - Congrats on being published in Demin + Grace! That is so exciting for you! And I too am a little obsessed with the draft! So fun and nerve wracking at the same time!ReplyCancel

I am so honored to be published in the 2014 Posebook by Denim & Grace!

I found their beautiful blog a year ago and have been following along, praying that one day, my images would be on it! And now they are!

I am so thankful for the opportunity!

If you’re a photographer, you are definitely going to want to grab this book (also available in digital form)!

You can purchase it here.

At the end of every session, I get so incredibly giddy about my couples because they just fit with me. Jessica and Chad were no different.

We met in Cocoa Village on Sunday afternoon and it couldn’t have been more perfect…except for the end of the session what I was getting yelled at by a homeless woman. Hey, there’s a first time for everything.
Jessica and Chad were so easy to direct because they just match each other so well. I never felt like I had to force them, a real dream for a photographer! There are so many photos that I loved editing because they way they look at each other is so natural, you can without a doubt tell that these two are about to get hitched.

Jessica had the most unique way of showing off her save the date, just wait till you see how she did it! Enjoy these beautiful people!

I am so excited about your wedding in November, you two!
